The Doulton Ultracarb filter is specially designed for the Franke Triflow and Uniflow products.
Note: These are not genuine Avilion/Franke cartridges, but a cost effective compatible with excellent performance.
The Ultracarb is a 4 stage ceramic cartridge that combines the efficient filtration properties of ceramic with the enhanced water treatment properties of activated carbon.
Its properties are the same as the Supercarb except that it offers better heavy metal reduction, meaning it can help reduce iron, lead, etc.
It is fully compatible with the Franke FRX02 and Matrikx-1 cartridges (this product should not suffer badly in low pressure environments).
Stage 1: Doulton Supercarb Ceramic which provides genuine sub-micron filtration, reducing bacteria, cysts and turbidity.
Stage 2: The incorporation of silver locked within the ceramic structure gives enhanced bacteriostatic and self-sterilizing properties.
Stage 3: An inner core of activated carbon block removes chlorine and organic compounds.
Stage 4: Ion exchange resin reduces lead and other heavy metals.
Using compatibles will NOT void your warranty. These cartridges are manufactured by Doulton who have been making ceramic based cartridges since 1827. They are WQA, EPA and NSF approved, which are the most rigorous tests you find in the water treatment business and are sold in 150 countries worldwide.

. Priced very reasonably
. Cartridge arrived very quickly in the post.
. Instructions were spot on and the cartridge appears to be working perfectly.

. 1. The Franke Triflow unit was already installed in the property I have just moved into.
. 2. I dislike the taste of chlorine that I can always detect in tap water.
. 3. I live in a soft water area and somewhere in the dim and distant past I had been told that soft water is more likely to leach lead out of old piping. This may or may not be true but I feel reassured as the Utracarb claims to remove lead.

The only test of functionality that I can do on the Ultracarb is a personal water taste test which the filter easily passed as I could detect no hint of chlorine (if it removes fluoride as well, I would consider that a bonus). The only slight downside is that it slows the flow of water down sufficiently to make it irritating when trying to fill the kettle - a minor problem.
. If it lasts at least 6 months I will consider it good value.
