Description

Complete system - includes housing, initial cartridge, mounting brackets and spanner

The 10" Big Blue water filter is intended for whole house or industrial applications where high flow rates are required. The housings feature larger cartridges than our typical drinking water systems, thus enabling them to offer similar filtration performance, but without a noticeable drop in flow. 10" Models are ideally suited for flats and/or apartments, OR houses where only a single occupant is likely to demand water at once. For houses with two bathrooms, or when there is a possibility that washing machines, dishwashers, hoses etc may run at the same time as the bath/shower then we always advise taking a 20" model with increased throughput.

10" Models are also ideal for single appliance feeding, for example, protecting a specific piece of equipment, or treating the water supplied to a single full flow tap.

The carbon filter that removes chlorine is particularly suited to people that have allergies to chlorine, or have medical conditions such as psoriasis or eczema, which are aggravated by it. Bathing and showering actually draws moisture from the skin and chlorine helps increase the rate of this (in effect making your skin drier). Some people also believe that chlorine kills off some of the bacteria on your skin that may actually help with such conditions, thus preventing your body's (and nature's) natural responses to them.

Ingestion of Chlorine is also suspected to excaerbate some skin conditions, since some believe the chlorine in tap water (added as a disinfectant) destroys naturally occuring gut/bowel bacteria which help with skin and bone regeneration.

Our carbon filters, once installed, mean that your bath, shower, sinks, appliances (washing machines etc.) will all be free from the vast majority (in excess of 95%) of the typical amount of chlorine in your domestic supply. We can offer a specialist version of this system to specifically target Chloramine (Thames Water customers, and all of Scotland at present). Chloramine is an Ammonia/Chlorine compound, and whilst the 10" model can deal with this, really a 20" model is preferred (giving a longer contact time) increasing the cost to approximately £99 plus delivery including the brackets, cartridge and spanner.

When compared to the cost of a shower filter (which are typically around £40) this is a much better solution.

Features:

  • 1" BSP threaded connectors
  • Sediment and/or chlorine removal for heavy duty/whole house applications
  • Available in 10" (heavy duty) or 20" (very heavy duty) models
  • Ideal for industrial applications
  • Suitable for domestic applications and whole house chlorine removal
  • Cartridges last six months each

Installation - basically it needs plumbing in somewhere close to where your water enters the property if you are going to filter your entire house. Typically, it can be installed using common compression fittings to 15mm or 22mm pipework without too much trouble, however, if you have no plumbing experience you may require assistance for the initial installation (changing cartridges is very simple and can be done yourself). The system should, in the vast majority of cases, take between 30 to 60 minutes to install in case you need to obtain a quotation from a local plumber prior to purchase. Cartridge changes are simple and do not require specialist assistance.

I was looking on the net for ages, and stumbled upon this great product. My girlfiriend had moved into a new flat with a combi boiler, her previous property had the old style hot water system with a large tank upstairs. Within days of washing with hot water supplied by the combi boiler we both started to suffer with dry itchy skin. After some research I found that Chlorine was likely to be the problem. In the old systems with a tank the water is sat for ages so the chlorine is allowed to escape, with a combi its obviously heated and then goes straight into your bath, sink or shower. Once this unit was fitted the difference was noticable instantly. If you get a plumber to fit it, get a competent one, the one I used didn't have a clue which meant that every time the filter was changed one of the pipes to the unit leaked. I would recommend changing the unit every 3-4 months. This unit is a great price and it could be answering your prayers if you suffer from dry itchy skin due to chlorine.

Very pleased - although this is much larger than I anticipated it was also much easier to fit than I expected and has removed all of the chlorine taste without any noticable drop in pressure.

Browsed the net for a long time looking for a suitable Dechlorinator, bearing in mind did not want to pay a fortune. This is a very neat solution and to my mind a total bargin. Took me about an hour to install, with most of the prep work done beforehand, its as simple as breaking into the line and making certain you have got the appropriate adaptors to go from 1" BSP taper in the filter to either 22mm or 15 mm if going into a domestic system. Have already recomended to friends and family
